Going Cold Turkey During Christmas – Not!

I recently turned 48. It’s not a big deal to me as in actual fact it’s just a number. I don’t feel like a number, but the main reason for this blog was to motivate myself to get back in shape – or at least improve my current shape – before I turn 50. I figure I can do it safely in two years. I’ve set neither a solid timeline nor a guide to follow other than it has to be before I turn 50. What sucks about having a birthday near Christmas is that it is difficult to start ‘dieting’ going into Turkey Season. I’m not even going to pretend so I’ll glide through Christmas as I normally would, but will keep in mind I need to start working on my plan before much more time passes. One thing I intend to do quickly is get back to lifting weights. I’ll start nice and easy with small free weights and will progress from there. Although I may not have a concrete plan, I do have a plan of attack. I already know, from past experience, what works for me and I’ll use a combination of those elements in my efforts to become more hunky than chunky. The combination will include free weights, walking (hopefully moving up to jogging/running) and a healthier diet. The hard part is clearing the first few hurdles. After that, it’ll be smooth sailing. And instead of defeating the purpose by trying to go cold turkey at Christmastime, I’ll be eating cold turkey sandwiches as I plot my revenge against those nasty calories.
