The Only Fish Without Scales Comes From A Can

Call it osmosis. The Sweet Roast stumbled upon a real lunchtime gem the other day. For some reason she had skipped breakfast – which is very unusual for her. Unfortunately, our office is located within close proximity of a convenience store and a bakery. While either has it’s advantages, there’s challenges in finding the right things to eat at either location. Anyway, Sweet Roast went to the convenience store and found tins of tuna on the shelf. This is an old staple of mine – canned tuna! The variety she found contained sun-dried tomatoes in the mixture. When she returned to the office she popped open the can and started dining. Tuna from a can is actually a great ‘healthy’ snack – provided the fish is packed in water. Stay away from the varieties swimming in oil if you can. She found the meal filling and satisfying and she did herself a huge favour eating tuna rather than something from the bakery. It also reminded me I can find something other than an energy bar, sub sandwich or chocolate bar in there the next time I need a fast ‘healthy’ lunch. The benefits of tuna are many but most notably high in protein and low in calories, which means you can mix the chunks into a salad for change and still have a low-fat meal. Sweet Roast also says she’s read where canned tuna can squelch cravings for sweets. So far, in her couple of experiments with that theory it’s been proven to be correct. Regardless of your results, don’t forget to stock your pantry or office cupboard with tuna – an easy energy booster right from the can!
