A Biker Chick

Sweet Roast received a gift last week. A family friend loaned her a bicycle for use this summer and as soon as she got on it she made a serious transformation. She has become a biker chick riding her bike to work each morning, home for lunch, back to work for the afternoon and back home after work. She’s even added distance to her rides by touring the neighbourhood instead of riding directly home. The extra energy she seems to have gained with bicycling has also made her more productive at work and she’s taking on small chores in the yard. I keep telling her to be very cautious with how she uses this newfound store of energy, but secretly I’m very excited for her. Sweet Roast has been trying to make changes to her body but has not had the proper motivation to get started. The bright, sunny days of spring and a new to her bike has been enough to get the ball rolling. This is something I’ve said before in previous blogs – it’s often hard to get started, but once you do and turn it into a routine, it’s hard to stop. Add to that signs of progress along the way and you have a great combination that not only assists with your fitness but enhances your mental health as well. When you feel better about yourself you tend to want to keep working at it. I’m not sure how long Sweet Roast will keep riding her bike, but for now it’s giving her the right kind of motivation. She’s even suggested I start some light jogging so we can participate in a fitness activity together. I like the idea and I think it would be a very good addition to my power walking routine.
