Maybe If She Read My Blog…

The Sweet Roast is frustrated. She keeps telling me she doesn’t like her body. She’s put on a few pounds in the past year and it shows (but so have I). I’m not trying to be funny, but it has a lot to do with why she’s not happy with how she looks. She’s also menopausal, which contributes to weight gain in women Sweet Roast’s age. So I try not to mention when I’ve had another breakthrough in my path to better fitness. But I know she sees me walking to work all the time and she’s already home and relaxed by the time I arrive after work on foot. It’s tempting to point out the obvious, but I can’t. I don’t think she’ll truly see what I mean and make the connection. Diet is only one part of the equation. Exercise is another part (often the biggest part) for many others. I’ve even walked to work on cold, blustery days, as I know it’ll do me far more good than driving to work in a heated car. In fact, I’ve gotten so used to bundling up for the morning walk that the other morning I got into the office at 8:00 AM and had no idea it was -20C (-4F) until someone had mentioned it later in the day. I’m pretty much programmed to do the distance from home to work at least once a day, regardless. In her defense, Sweet Roast has the right idea; she wants to ride her bike to work when the weather gets better. It’s a good idea, but I think she’d be helping herself if she was walking to work right now to get those muscles moving and ready for when she starts riding her bike. I know I’m looking forward to some light jogging once the weather improves, as I know I’m already miles ahead in my prep by power walking as long as I have. But I really do understand Sweet Roast’s problem. Most of it is mental and so simple to turn around. If she started walking once or twice a week to work, there’s no doubt in my mind she’d start to feel better about herself and start to increase the frequency. It’s just getting over the first hurdle that takes so long. Maybe if she read my blog she’d be inspired to just starting moving!
