I have pretty much determined that the walk to work each morning (and odd walk home in the evening) is already pretty close to speed-walking, only I’m not swinging both arms as I’m usually carrying my briefcase in one hand. I’m also seeing results already having lost a few pounds since I started walking. It’s marginal, but enough to keep me motivated enough to take an extra trip either to work or back home without hesitation. I’ve noticed I’m not breathing as heavy as I’m getting used to the cardio workout with my recovery back to normal breathing taking place quicker and quicker. My results are also enough to piss off Sweet Roast! I realize it’s not a contest, nor have I looked at it as one in any way, shape or form. Just my timing was off (as usual) when I proudly announced the other day I had lost a few pounds already. Sweet Roast did not seem impressed stating she’s gaining as I’m losing. Maybe if she walked as much as I do… But it did occur to me the other day, on one of my trips to work, that if she can’t keep up with me once the weather improves I can see her getting back into her in-line skates. She used them frequently a couple Summers ago but I think she was rarely motivated enough last Summer to put them on. My almost-speed-walking and the early progress I’ve made will no doubt get her in the mood to move…which would be fun for me as well. It’ll be something good for ourselves we can do together. I’ve also started taking multivitamins (a special men’s formula) in the morning with breakfast and salmon oil pills with supper. I’m still working on getting free weights into the package. I just have to find the routine I designed for myself a couple years ago and fine-tune it a little. I’d really like to incorporate weight training into my overall program before too long.
