These Boots Were Made For Walkin’

I have entered the first phase of my quest to become less chunky. I now walk to work. It’s not that far, really, and this morning I timed my trip, which took just about 12-minutes. I don’t take a bit of a stroll when I walk, either. I have a pretty quick pace and a one-way trip to work for me these days entails slippery roads and sidewalks with me carrying my briefcase stuffed with a laptop computer and various other cords, connectors and DVDs along with me. I wasn’t sure how long the trip took so that’s why I ran my stopwatch this morning. Under normal conditions it’s probably closer to a 10-minute walk, which means, when the weather improves (its January - snow and ice still cover the ground) I can easily make the trip more than once a day. What got me walking? Well, I entered this phase of my journey quite by accident. The Sweet Roast’s car ended up in the shop. I am always at work an hour or so before her so we use two cars. So rather than drive to work at my usual 7:45 AM, get my morning routine underway at the office then have to stop everything just before 9:00 AM so I could drive home and pick up Sweet Roast I decided to walk to work and leave the car with her. So far, I think it was the right choice. It’s still too early to tell if I have any more energy than before, but I do expect to feel something in a couple more weeks. By the way, walking to or from work is nothing new to me as I’ve done it before so it’s not as if I’ve taken on a new task I’ve had no experience with. Lately I’ve noticed the collection of weights I have on the floor and am currently using as doorstops. I think they will become part of my second phase. Another part of the equation I’m quite well acquainted with!
