Ah, Nuts.

I didn’t get to be the Love Chunk by skipped snacks and one of my favourites is bite-sized, affordable and comes in so many variations that I’ll never get bored of them. Yep, you guessed it. I’m a fan of peanuts. I used to buy them in bulk, still in the shell, but that eventually became too much work. The shelling them, that is. Mind you, I probably didn’t eat as many due to all the extra work in shelling the little beggers. Anyway, regardless of what you may or may not have heard about peanuts listen to this – sure there’s fat in those suckers but they are also packed with a bunch of nutrients. The list on peanuts alone reads like a health journal entry. They contain protein, fibre, magnesium, Vitamin E, copper, phosphorus, potassium and zinc. Oh, and in regard to the fat it’s that heart-healthy type that also helps satiate hunger. Walnuts and almonds are also good. So if you need a high-energy power booster, find a way to fit peanuts into your diet. Just try to keep to the ones that don’t come covered in chocolate. My favourite variety of peanuts right now contains sea salt and cracked black pepper. When faced with a wall full of choices I normally lean towards the barbequed variety with honey-roasted as probably the second choice. The only thing I think about with those choices is the salt content; otherwise I’m a sucker for peanuts. A high-fibre, quick and easy lunch snack for me is crunchy peanut butter rolled up in a wrap, or crunchy peanut butter spread on low-salt crackers. Why crunchy? I dunno. I’m just not a huge fan of smooth. But I am nuts about nuts!
