A Tired Roast Is Still A Sweet Roast
My lovely wife, the Sweet Roast has fibromyalgia, which is a chronic fatigue disease that strikes both males and females. She’s described it as a pain that feels as if her skin hurts all over. I remember in my drinking days the odd hangover where the following morning after an all-nighter my hair actually hurt to touch. That’s probably as close as I’ll get to understand what it must feel like when she says she’s hurting all over. Stress seems to be one of the things that trigger an attack for her so we try to keep things as stress-free as possible in our lives, but it doesn’t always work. Outside influences can often take over and an unexpected event can become stressful in an instant and before you know it, Sweet Roast is a tired and sore roast. It’s obviously not fun to experience, but we have gotten used to it. One thing I’ve noticed is that fibromyalgia continues to be misdiagnosed and sometimes confused for many other things or believed to “just be in your head.” I think that’s because there are rarely any outwardly visible signs, like a rash or a cough or something that could be identified as a fibromyalgia twitch or mark. There are many symptoms, but the most common (or as I can see with living with Sweet Roast) are a feeling of being tired and worn out as well as sore despite adequate rest and meals; muscle pain that seems to target the neck and lower back; sleep disturbances, depression and a headache that won’t go away but keeps thumping away for sometimes many days. Another symptom is the inability to get a diagnosis for fatigue (often more than two opinions are needed to even get close to pinning this one down) and pain in eleven of eighteen pressure points. As I said, when Sweet Roast suffers a flare up, she says she feels sore all over. When someone feels like this they aren’t about to go for a walk, run ten kilometres, work in the garden, lift weights or cook a nutritious meal. Not only does it hurt, it hurts your fitness. If you think you may have fibromyalgia, check with your doctor. It sucks to be in pain when you should be enjoying yourself.
