Shakin’ My Booty To The Ants In My Pants
I rarely sit still. Especially when I hear music. I’m not a dancer, nor am I a singer, but when I hear something with the right beat I just can’t stop moving. It’s more than just tapping my toes. If I’m standing I’m either swaying, groovin’ or movin’ to the beat. Often I’m sort of dancin’ my little ‘crazy man’ dance totally oblivious to how I must look to others as I let the music take me away. If I’m in a seated position, depending on where I am and what I’m doing, I’ll normally keep time to what I hear. I think it goes back to my years in broadcasting where I spent a lot of time by myself in a sound proof booth, with not much more than huge speakers and loud music. I just can’t not tap, clap, snap or rap fingers, hands, palms or toes. Often I’m keeping time to drums and bass guitar. Sometimes just the drums. It depends on what the music is and whether or not it sucks me into it’s rhythmic sound. Regardless, the bottom line is that I can’t sit still. I read somewhere that it’s actually a good exercise with some (although very minor) benefit. All that tapping, movin’ and groovin’ actually burns off calories. I’m far from breaking a sweat after I’m done, and there’s no way I’m out of breath so I’m not burning off much, but the few calories I do convert to energy not only had it coming to them, but they enabled me to bop along with the tune I was hearing. Even if it was only in my head. So the next time you hear a song that makes you want to move…do just that and say good-bye to a few of those extra calories you’re burning off in a fun way.
