Back To Basics

Things have slowly changed over the past number of weeks. I’m down to power-walking once a week, but it usually entails a complete round trip home and back to work. While I’m not entirely missing the walks, I have continued to long for the days when I used to run for miles. I know I am far from ready for distance of any kind, but now that I have a new pair of runners I plan to make use of them. The Trans-Canada Trail passes by our front door (about 200 feet away from it, actually) and in our community the trail is paved. I have determined that the kilometre stretch that passes by our home will be my training ground. I plan to power-walk, sprint and jog on it in various intervals to develop a cardio program with additional benefits. Further down the trail from our house is a stretch where large concrete barriers were put in place to discourage dirt bikers from using the paved trail as a drag strip. I’m not sure if the blocks are still there, but if they are they will play a part in my program in a sort of obstacle course I can run. I have all sorts of ideas I want to get to, but can only execute them in the early evenings and only on evenings I don’t have any other activities planned. It’ll take some juggling, but once I get into a routine I’ll be on my way.
