The Ringing In My Ears Is The Neighbour Ringing In The New Year

Our New Year’s Tradition is a pretty simple one. It involves sleep. Typically Sweet Roast is sawing logs by 10:00 PM any night of the week. Sometimes she can force herself to stay up until maybe 10:30 PM. On New Year’s Eve, she’s normally down for the count much earlier. A party animal she is not. I’m normally used to staying up to midnight on December 31st just so I can give the Old Year a fitting send off. Keep in mind; this usually just entails me staying up until midnight, not a wild party or a fridge full of beer. Both Sweet Roast and I just stay home and say so long to one year and hello to another in a very quiet way. The difference in our methods? I’m at least awake at midnight. I know one thing I like about how we celebrate the occasion is that we aren’t getting drunk and stupid, which, even in moderation, is not only unhealthy for you, but is equally unhealthy for those you put in danger if you are stupid enough to try driving home after the New Year’s Party. Another thing I like about our celebration is that the following day, the first day of the New Year, we will go outside, regardless of the weather, and take photos of ourselves and our pets to document the start of a new chapter in our lives together. What’s this got to do with becoming less chunky and more hunky? It’s all part of the ‘healthy mind’ part of the equation that will lead me to my goal of becoming the Love Hunk rather than the Love Chunk. Feeling good about yourself and being with loved ones helps a lot. That’s one of the things I look forward to on New Year’s Day and although it’s not the only time I do it, it is on New Year’s Day when I purposely take the time to remind myself I need to do it a lot more in the 12 months to follow.
