Hard Work Has Its Rewards

Sweet Roast and I had what we call a play day the other day. It was basically a day off from work that we filled with activities for ourselves and ended with a reward for getting everything done. We planned a picnic in the afternoon at a place we go a few times a year about 25-kilometres from our home. A quick stop for a 12-inch sub sandwich (cut in half – her side had tomatoes, mine had black olives), a couple of cold drinks and our cameras and we were off. It’s October, not exactly peak picnic season, so we really had no trouble finding a spot. In fact, we had the entire 20+ unit campsite to ourselves. After lunch we took our cameras and explored along the river located there. We easily spent close to two hours wandering along the riverbank, taking photos, climbing huge rocks and skipping a few. It was a nice relaxing afternoon. It got us motivated to ramp it up a bit by the time we got home. There’s a small yard project that we started a week ago which involves landscape fabric and crush – rocks about the size of walnuts. The plan was to cover a section of the front yard with crush to eliminate the need for mowing the lawn and weed whacking. Anywhere in the yard where I can eliminate either (or both) of those chores and I’m all over it like a bad smell. So once we got home from our play day, Sweet Roast rolled out the fabric and I started loading the wheelbarrow with crush. Here’s some trivia for you: twenty-five shovel loads of crush makes a good-sized wheelbarrow load. I moved six wheelbarrow loads to finish the project, which in real time took us just over an hour to complete. Our reward, two heaping bowls of chocolate ice cream (mine with smooth peanut butter added, hers with peanut butter and Nutella) did not last as long.
